Friday Freestyle, August 13th

Happy Friday fam! August keeps chugging along.

What’s on my mind: COVID-19 & 2022

This meme really captures what’s going on:

I definitely knew it was August, but this meme really got me. We’re still dealing with 2020, yet we’re almost in 2022.

I originally thought COVID would be over by May 2020 and that we’d be back in office around the same time. Toward the later parts of last year, I thought 2020 was over but by mid-to-late 2021 we’d be back to “normal”.

At this point, I really have no idea what to expect. It’s not looking like things will be “resolved” by the end of this year. If this year is anything like last, cases spiked hard during the winter in December and January globally.

This puts a ton of question marks on 2022 and more specifically where we will (can?) be. Will the world buckle back to early 2020 levels, or will we make progress against new mutations and head toward normal.

What I’m watching (and just finished): Outer Banks S1, Glow Up S3

So I am watching a lot and have completed quite a bit. Currently watching the second half of Outer Banks Season One and on the last few episodes of Glow Up Season Three.

Outerbanks is a typical highschool drama show about the haves and the have-nots, but there’s also a TREASURE HUNT FOR GOLD.

Glow Up is a reality competition show pitting MUAs (makeup artists) against one another. It’s not as good as the second (or maybe even first) season, and after about three episodes, I was fairly certain who would win.

Just finished Ru Paul’s Drag Race Season 10. Within minutes of the season premiere, I was scratching my head as to why I stopped watching the show after season nine. After Googling Ru Paul’s Drag Race watch order, it became clear.

All Stars Season Three comes after season 9, and I didn’t want to catch any spoilers in season 10 (All Stars Season Three isn’t available on Netflix or Hulu in Mexico).

After season 10, I’m back on the bandwagon and can’t wait to jump into All Stars Season Four and then season 11. Don’t want to throw any spoilers out, but there is one queen I was shocked to see go home when they did. Still bitter.

Prior to that we quickly ran through Sweet Tooth. This is why I don’t watch shows with only one season! Now I’m out here waiting desperately for a season two that is likely at least one year away.

The show is about hybrid (part animal) humans and an infectious disease. It has serious Covid vibes. While it gets childish and unbelievable at times, I’m definitely into it and can’t wait for the new season.

Maybe all the Netflix-ing is why I’m behind on reading…

What I’m reading: A Short History of Nearly Everything (still)

Still working on A Short History of Nearly Everything. I’m 75% through and while it isn’t as good as The Body, it does have its moments that suck me in.

After I finish this, I’m debating reading People We Meet on Vacation or rereading The Harry Potter Series.

Idea I’m pondering: Happiness vs Purpose

I’ve been thinking about happiness vs purpose a little bit. The image/scene I see in my head is someone retired drinking margaritas on the beach (not really contributing to society). The other is someone working their tail off about something they’re passionate about but that’s sleep-deprived and unhappy.

Which of these people dies feeling like they made the right life choices? At the moment, I think I’d lean toward happiness, but in a perfect world I’d have/aim for both

What’s up this weekend? A New Visitor

We have our third visitor coming to town this weekend! One of Yunji’s best friends will be coming to Mexico for a week and staying in Queretaro for a few nights to visit. Because of tiredness (read: laziness?) and unpredictable weather, we haven’t done too much during our time in Queretaro.

This should be a reason to get back out to exploring the city and eating all the good things. I’ve probably fallen behind on filming here, so it’ll be great to build up some content for new YouTube videos

I’m not too sure what we will get up to, but I plan to do a proper tour of the historic center, hit a brewery or cocktail bar (or few), and probably take a day trip to a nearby town.

Here’s what happened the last time we had visitors:

Coming soon…

The next few posts I will be writing will be my second reader case study (here’s my first one if you missed it), starting the “Let’s Move to Europe Series”, and “You’re closer to FIRE than you think–if you want”.

My most recent blog post covered how much we spent in 4 weeks living in Puebla, Mexico. It was our cheapest month living abroad so far, and I loved Puebla:  https://intristang.com/puebla-cost-of-living/

On YouTube, this Saturday I’ll be publishing part two of our Cholula day trip (we missed out on a few things our first time, so we went back the next day). After that, I’ll be doing videos on a brunch tour of Puebla (!) and typical, regional dishes of Puebla.

Here’s my most recent YouTube video:

Have a great weekend and see you soon!
